3) Share: successes and challenges and enhance each other's capacity -
- protocol to share -
- one success, one challenge, one connection
Rick
Success: efficient technology use - student council data gathering, tabulation with google forms
Challenge: optimizing vs. satisfying "there's got to be a better way" not always super efficient
Connection: Brian's affirming "it can be done"
Brian
Success: integrating technology into work rather than on top of - wrestle with this - the more time spent playing more luddite tendencies growing - find a way to use it when fully integrated. Use tech to study language - practice
Challenge: Not allowing the pd needs to get in way of working with students directly
Connection: Louise reminding to get out from behind computer
Louise
Success: Open to new ways
Challenge: Lots of choice but too many choices so I can't help students. Ex. of portfolio to be on same page with all students. Follow a similar plan.
Connection: Julia shared ways she used Google Classroom - sometimes forget to stretch box.
Julia
Success: Specials class 11/12 grade, not graded, college/career ready. Use Google Classroom (choice: story, fact, focus). Not turning in assignments - Exit ticket reflection/evidence
Challenge:
Connection:
Eric
Success: Classroom/docs managing workflow - ind. research then easy share out with google presentation slides
Challenge: Developing a new sense of body language & norms, when is it OK for eyes on screen?
Connection: Ryan took on making folder architecture for comps.
Ryan
Success: Experimenting "paper-free September" - students haven't noticed. Google Classroom use: no more whiteboard, agenda all on announcements.
Challenge: Comps - go well for students, be educational, tracking them even when forms and spreadsheets have been collected. Proficiencies? Create own rubrics? Constant access
Connection: Peter/Julia - adjacent line of sight check in - feels like co-teaching and constant checking in.
Gabe
Success: 9/10 Humanities - Classroom as a note-taking tool. Online designated spot to take notes - ungraded assignment with outline for note-taking. Also take a photo of the board at end of class and add it to the assignment.
Challenge: When paper copies needed? Need to plan that ahead.
Connection: Ron - strengthen the learning - present POLs for middle school - not confuse students
Kellie
Success: More students seeing me as resource - goal is to get them to smile before leaving room. Helping students to set up apps "only a click away" - kids showing things to me so it is reciprocal.
Challenge: Projecting needed, rethink classroom space. Work on solution for all teachers to become paperless.
Connection: Students - if a student has changed their wallpaper, they are not owning the thing, the new binder so put digital stickers. Dictation or Clearly extension
Alexandra
Success: Google Classroom - can edit the assignments until they've been turned in. Comic to share in class - just put it on Classroom.
Challenge: Norms of computer use - balance between flexible while having expectations that make sense.
Connection: Students - 1st day Calculus II students uploaded screenshot of Khan, Peter put up notes on Classroom - "Answers" shamelessly stolen from students for answer key.
John
Success: Being here. Having students energized and enjoying it.
Challenge: Integrating the learning - patient with myself - levels of culture shock. Processing speeds in adjusting to new technologies.
Connection: Checking in with Brian to keep the class on track

Inservice Agenda 9-25-15
Agenda 9-25-15
Morning:
IceBreaker - Ted Talk - How to start a Movement
2. SlideShare -
- 5 min. prep - 3 slides
- 10 min. share out
3) Share: successes and challenges and enhance each other's capacity -
- protocol to share -
- one success, one challenge, one connection
4) Code of Conduct next steps -
Discussion points:
- to work on norms and understandings about body language and communication in this new digital age.
- When I want to assign an in-class activity, but there's not really a final product to turn in, how do students "turn in"? I don't like the messiness of the Specials Class when I have no HW, and much is classwork, but no clear (yet) "proof" to show what they did.
- I'm still working out when I want to allow students to have their computers open and when not. It's disconcerting to look out at a sea of laptop-backs and not know what anyone's actually doing on there.
5) Discuss - how will students collect/i.d. evidence tied to proficiencies?
- Classroom and/or Teacher Advisory routines to support evidence gathering
- Tools:
- Student collection & curation - Explore:
- Drive folders & Doc Template Proficiency List
- Google site template (summative vs. formative)
- Blogger
- Pinterest Boards
- Evernote
- Teacher tracking with JumpRope?
